The IUPAP-IAPS Outstanding Student Award 2026 recognises academic excellence and achievement within the global physics community. This award celebrates individuals and their accomplishments as physicists shaping the future of the field.

Established in 1932, the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics supports the development of physics worldwide and helps apply physics to problem-solving for humanity. Likewise, the International Association of Physics Students was established in 1987, and its mission is to encourage scientific engagement among physics students worldwide.

The award comes with a cash prize of CHF 1,000 and distinguished certificates from IUPAP and IAPS. The award also seeks to encourage the contributions and potential of early-career physicists and their groundbreaking contributions to the field.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible to apply, students must:

1. Students should currently be studying in a university in the field of physics or a related course at any level, whether bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD.

2. The students must have been studying the course for up to 12 months before applying.

3. Applicants must be current members of IAPS.

  • Curriculum vitae of one to three pages long, with emphasis on physics-related work.
  • Personal statements not more than two pages.
  • Recommendation letters.
